Area = Length × Width
Area = 0.5 × Base × Height
Area = π × Radius × Radius
Area = 0.5 × (Base1 + Base2) × Height
For a rectangle or square, multiply the length by the width. For example, a room that is 12 feet by 10 feet is 120 square feet (12 × 10 = 120).
There are 9 square feet in 1 square yard. To convert square feet to square yards, divide by 9.
Break the room into smaller regular shapes (rectangles, triangles). Calculate the area of each shape separately, then add them together.
Add 10% extra for waste from cuts and mistakes. For patterned flooring or diagonal installation, add 15% extra.
