Convert grams to tablespoons for accurate cooking and baking
Formula: Tablespoons = Grams ÷ 14.2g/tbsp
14.2g ÷ 14.2 = 1.00 tbsp
| Grams (g) | Tablespoons |
|---|---|
| 5g | 0.4 tbsp |
| 10g | 0.7 tbsp |
| 15g | 1.1 tbsp |
| 20g | 1.4 tbsp |
| 25g | 1.8 tbsp |
| 30g | 2.1 tbsp |
| 40g | 2.8 tbsp |
| 50g | 3.5 tbsp |
| 60g | 4.2 tbsp |
| 75g | 5.3 tbsp |
| 100g | 7.0 tbsp |
| 125g | 8.8 tbsp |
| 150g | 10.6 tbsp |
Converting grams to tablespoons means converting from a weight measurement to a volume measurement. This conversion is ingredient-specific because different ingredients have different densities. A gram of honey takes up less space than a gram of flour because honey is denser.
When converting recipes from grams to tablespoons:
Divide the number of grams by the grams per tablespoon for your specific ingredient. For example, 50g of butter ÷ 14.2g/tbsp = 3.52 tablespoons, which you can round to 3.5 tablespoons.
Different ingredients have different densities. A tablespoon of honey weighs 21g while a tablespoon of flour weighs only 7.8g. Using the wrong conversion will significantly affect your recipe results.
For baking, aim for accuracy within 1/4 tablespoon. For general cooking, you can round to the nearest half tablespoon. When extreme precision matters, stick with gram measurements and a digital scale.
Convert decimals to fractions: 0.25 = 1/4 tbsp, 0.5 = 1/2 tbsp, 0.75 = 3/4 tbsp. Or use teaspoons: 0.33 tbsp = 1 tsp, 0.67 tbsp = 2 tsp. Remember that 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons.
