Use our grade calculator to figure out your grade for a class or test, or the minimum grade needed on your final exam. Supports letter grades, percentages, and points.
Please enter some numbers.
We divided the tool into three parts — a letter grade calculator, a grade percentage calculator, and a point grade calculator. You can enter up to 15 marks (new fields will appear once you increase the number).
The weights are, by default, set to 1. Leave them as they are if you want to calculate an unweighted average. If your grades have weights, set them accordingly. If the weights are percentages, enter them in decimal form (1 = 100%, 0.5 = 50%, 0.2 = 20%, etc.).
Schools and universities in the United States use different grading scales. You can specify the thresholds used by your teachers in the Grading scale (thresholds) section of the calculator.
| Letter Grade | Percentage | GPA (Grade Point Average) |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 97-100 | 4.3 |
| A | 93-96 | 4.0-4.29 |
| A- | 90-92 | 3.7-3.99 |
| B+ | 87-89 | 3.3-3.69 |
| B | 83-86 | 3.0-3.29 |
| B- | 80-82 | 2.7-2.99 |
| C+ | 77-79 | 2.3-2.69 |
| C | 73-76 | 2.0-2.29 |
| C- | 70-72 | 1.7-1.99 |
| D+ | 67-69 | 1.3-1.69 |
| D | 63-66 | 1.0-1.29 |
| D- | 60-62 | 0.7-0.99 |
| F | Below 60 | 0.0-0.69 |
Some schools don't use "+/-". In this case, A is typically 90-100%, B is 80-89%, C is 70-79%, D is 60-69%, and F is below 60%.
The letter grading system is common in the US. Let's see how to use the letter grade calculator:
To use the grade percentage calculator:
To use the point grade calculator:
The formula that lets you calculate weighted grades is:
(g₁ × w₁ + g₂ × w₂ + … + gₙ × wₙ) / (w₁ + w₂ + … + wₙ)Where "g" stands for "grade" and "w" stands for "weight".
You got a B (weight 2) and an A (weight 5). Converting: B = 3 points, A = 4 points.
Weighted average: (3 × 2 + 4 × 5) / (2 + 5) = 26 / 7 ≈ 3.71 = A-
In the case of percentage grades, we use the same weighted average formula.
You got 67% for an essay (15% weight), 75% for midterm (35% weight), and 72% for final (50% weight).
67% × 0.15 + 75% × 0.35 + 72% × 0.5 = 10.05% + 26.25% + 36% = 72.3% (C-)
A 75% in letter grade is equivalent to a C, which is considered a passing grade. Generally, a C is somewhere between 70 and 79 percent. Some schools use letters with "+/-", meaning that a C- is 70-72 percent, a C is 73-76 percent, and a C+ is between 77 to 79 percent.
To calculate your final grade: (1) Add up all points earned on assignments, tests, and projects. (2) Divide by the total points possible. (3) Multiply by 100 for the percentage. For example: scores of 15/20, 18/20, and 12/20 give you 45/60 = 0.75 × 100 = 75%.
Multiply each grade by its weight, sum all the weighted grades, then divide by the sum of all weights. The formula is: (g₁×w₁ + g₂×w₂ + ... + gₙ×wₙ) ÷ (w₁ + w₂ + ... + wₙ).
If your teacher drops the lowest grade, simply don't include that assignment in your calculation. Enter only the grades that will count toward your final grade.
Use the 'Final Exam Grade' mode. Enter your current grade, desired final grade, and the final exam's weight. The calculator uses the formula: Required = (Desired - Current × (1 - Weight%)) ÷ Weight%.
Unweighted grades treat all assignments equally (weight of 1). Weighted grades give different importance to different categories - for example, tests worth 50%, homework 30%, final 20%. The weighted system reflects the relative importance of each assignment type.
Yes! Click on 'Grading scale (thresholds)' to customize the percentage cutoffs for each letter grade. This is useful if your school uses a different scale than the standard 90/80/70/60 breakdown.
On a standard 4.0 scale: A+=4.3, A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C-=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1.0, D-=0.7, F=0.0. Our calculator automatically shows the GPA equivalent for your grade.
The grade calculator can help you estimate your overall grade based on your component marks. The tool deals with three types of grading systems prevalent in the US — it's a letter grade calculator, a grade percentage calculator, and a point grade calculator.
You can use the tool as an unweighted or weighted grade calculator, and set the particular grading scale your teachers use. The weighted grade system allows different assignments to have different levels of importance in determining your final grade.
