Convert linear meters to square meters for fabric, flooring, carpet, and other roll materials. Calculate coverage area from length and width.
Square Meters = Linear Meters x Width (m)
| Material | Width | m2 per Linear Meter |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Wallpaper | 53 cm | 0.53 m2 |
| Narrow Fabric | 90 cm | 0.90 m2 |
| Standard Fabric | 110-115 cm | 1.10-1.15 m2 |
| Wide Fabric | 150 cm | 1.50 m2 |
| Vinyl Flooring | 2 m | 2.00 m2 |
| Carpet Roll | 3-5 m | 3.00-5.00 m2 |
| Artificial Turf | 2-4 m | 2.00-4.00 m2 |
A linear meter measures length only (one dimension), regardless of width. It is commonly used for roll materials like fabric, carpet, and flooring.
Multiply the length in linear meters by the width in meters. For example, 5 linear meters of 1.5m wide fabric = 5 x 1.5 = 7.5 square meters.
Fabric comes in fixed widths on rolls. Selling by linear meter allows customers to buy exactly the length they need while the width remains constant.
Add 10-15% for pattern matching, 15-20% for directional patterns or complex cuts. Always verify pattern repeat before ordering.
Cotton and most dress fabrics are 110-115cm (44-45 inches). Upholstery and decorator fabrics are often 140-150cm (54-60 inches).
Measure the room length and width in meters. Divide the room width by the carpet roll width to determine how many strips. Multiply strips by room length for total linear meters needed.
