Calculate Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration - the average concentration of hemoglobin in red blood cells
MCHC = (Hb ÷ Hct) × 100
MCHC in g/dL
Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC) measures the average concentration of hemoglobin within red blood cells, expressed in grams per deciliter (g/dL). Unlike MCH which measures the total amount of hemoglobin, MCHC measures the density of hemoglobin within the cell.
MCHC has a relatively narrow normal range and is the most stable of the red cell indices. Elevated MCHC is relatively rare and is a useful marker for hereditary spherocytosis or may indicate laboratory error.
